The first show of
the new season starts off with a BANG!
First, the Saturday Night Live Band gets two new recruits,
keyboard player Katrese Barnes (replacing the now-retired Cheryl
Hardwick) and bassist James Genus (replacing veteran bassist, Tom
Barney after a 2 plus 5 year stint with the SNL Band.
Second, we get two new feature players, Jerry Minor and head
writer Tina Fey who becomes the first woman to co-anchor Weekend
Update since Mary Gross and Christine Ebersole during the 7th
season. Jimmy Fallon has also been added to the Weekend Update
Anchorman area to replace Colin Quinn who's left SNL to pursure
other projects. Who also left SNL was Cheri Oteri after a
successful five-year stint with the show.
But I'm glad that Molly Shannon hadn't left SNL. She's needed
there REAL BAD! Without her, there's no Dog Show, No Circe
Nightshade, No Courtney Love, no Mary Katherine Gallagher,
NOTHING! Just an empty void.
I liked the skits as well. Will as Gov. George W. Bush and
Darrell as Veep Albert Gore, the debut of "The
Original" Gangsta Rappers, and a whole lot more.
Keep up the good work, Lorne.
